Privacy Policy
Effective date: 21 October 2026
This notice explains how personal data is handled when you use quitsar at quitsar.com. It covers the hosted website. If you run the open-source app on your own server, that installation’s operator is responsible for its data.
Who is responsible?
The operator and data controller is Jan Mederly, Slovakia. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected].
What data is processed, and why?
- Google account details: when you choose Google sign-in, Google supplies your account identifier, verified email address, and display name. We store these to identify your account and keep your library separate from other accounts. We do not receive your Google password, and do not request access to Gmail, Drive, or contacts.
- Your study data: question banks, attached images, answers, progress, schedules, flags, exam attempts, unfinished exams, and preferences are stored in your account so you can study across devices. Avoid uploading confidential information or personal data about other people.
- Sign-in activity: the time of your most recent Google sign-in is stored to apply the inactivity retention policy below. Merely opening an existing session does not reset this date.
- Security and connection data: Cloudflare handles request information such as IP addresses and browser information when delivering and protecting the website. The application uses a hash of the connecting IP for short-lived sign-in rate limits, plus account-based write counters. These protect accounts and limit abuse.
- Messages you send us: we process your email address and message to answer questions and handle privacy or support requests.
Legal bases
Providing the account and study features you request relies on performance of our service agreement (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)). Security, abuse prevention, and ordinary support rely on our legitimate interests in operating a reliable service (Article 6(1)(f)). Where a legal obligation requires processing, Article 6(1)(c) applies. If we rely on consent for a separate purpose, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. We do not currently use account data for advertising.
Guest mode, cookies, and device storage
In guest mode, your library stays in this browser’s IndexedDB storage. It is not automatically uploaded when you sign in. You can explicitly transfer it by exporting and restoring a backup. The app stores interface preferences and a storage-mode marker in local storage, and caches app files for offline guest use.
Google sign-in uses an essential temporary sign-in-state cookie and an essential session cookie. The hosted session cookie is HttpOnly, Secure, and SameSite=Lax. The application contains no advertising cookies, analytics trackers, or remote font requests. Google and Cloudflare handle their own services under their policies.
Who receives data?
Cloudflare hosts the website, account API, and D1 database, and processes data needed to deliver and secure them. Google authenticates you when you choose Google sign-in. If you email the contact address above, Google’s Gmail service handles that correspondence. We do not sell your personal data. Data may also be disclosed where required by law or necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy, Cloudflare’s data processing terms, and Google’s Privacy Policy. These providers may process data outside Slovakia or the EEA. Where required, transfers use an applicable adequacy decision or safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses; contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data.
How long is data kept?
- Accounts and study libraries: kept while you use your account, until you delete it, or until 24 calendar months have passed without a Google sign-in. Automatic cleanup checks expired accounts hourly in bounded batches. An expired account cannot retrieve its old data; signing in after the deadline creates a fresh account.
- Existing accounts: because reliable past sign-in dates were not stored previously, accounts existing when this policy is introduced receive a full 24-month window starting when the retention migration is applied. Later sign-ins reset that window.
- Sessions: expire after seven days. Temporary sign-in states expire after ten minutes, incomplete backup-restore uploads after fifteen minutes, and security rate counters after their one- or ten-minute window. Expired temporary records are removed by periodic cleanup in bounded batches; expiration prevents their normal reuse before physical cleanup finishes.
- Recovery copies: deletion removes live application data. Cloudflare D1 point-in-time recovery can retain earlier database copies for up to 30 days (seven days on its Free plan). These copies are not used for normal account access. Any recovery must preserve deletion requests rather than reactivate deleted accounts.
- Device copies: guest libraries and backups you download remain under your control until you remove them or clear browser storage. Deleting an online account does not erase these copies.
- Correspondence: retained only as long as needed to resolve the request and meet applicable legal or accountability requirements.
Delete an account or exercise your rights
Signed-in users can open Settings → Account → Delete account. After confirmation, this removes the live account profile, study records, preferences, staged uploads, and all account sessions. It does not delete your Google account. Signing in again creates a new quitsar account. You can also manage quitsar’s access through your Google account settings.
Use Backup & export for a copy of your study data. To request access to your other personal data, correction, erasure, restriction, portability where applicable, or to object to processing based on legitimate interests, email [email protected]. We may need proportionate identity verification. Requests are normally answered within one month; if a lawful extension is needed, we will explain it.
You may complain to your local supervisory authority, including the Office for Personal Data Protection of the Slovak Republic. We do not use your data to make automated decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects. Study schedules and practice scores are learning aids.
Security and changes
The application uses HTTPS, server-side authorization, account-scoped database access, and hashed session tokens. No online service can guarantee absolute security. We will update this notice when processing changes and make material changes clear before applying a new purpose to existing data. The effective date appears above.
